About Us.

About Us & this Blog

Hi and welcome to our world.  Or at least, what we see & experience of our shared planet.

Just who ARE ArtNomads?

We’re Scott & Amy, a late-50s couple who were bitten by the travel bug nearly 20 years ago. We’re both creative professionals, having directed multiple galleries, managed arts nonprofits, and engaged in Creative Placemaking.

In reading dozens to hundreds of travel blogs, we’ve yet to really find one that concentrates on the artistic side of travel, which is *our* passion.

Scott does (most of) the writing, some of the photography, and none of the image/video editing. He speaks English, un petit peu Francais, and is learning Spanish and Italian. He’s thrilled to wander ruins and try, with absolutely zero knowledge or training, to figure out what life was like “back then” for those inhabitants.

It’s Amy’s sensitivity to color, form (she’s a graphic designer and marketing professional) and attention to details/little things that balance Scott’s wider-angle view. It’s also Amy who guides the overall artistic vision of the photos & videos we share. Amy’s primary language is English, but she too is learning Spanish, in preparation for what we expect to be many years exploring Central and South America.

This blog isn’t about us being “fabulous”.  We’re not ‘beautiful people’, and you won’t find seventy-bazillion pics of us in swimsuits or posing with fancy cars. We’re sharing these experiences to hopefully inspire others to travel, learn and expand their understanding.

Along the way, we’ll share tips and gear we think would make your trip better, and what we think are the extra-special places, food, cultural events, and of course, art (including architecture) that make our nomadic life worth living and this planet worth exploring.  If you can’t travel physically, for whatever reason, we hope you’ll travel with us in spirit.

We’ve started (and stopped) several other travel-blog efforts before, (Australia, 2009) (SE Asia, 2009)and will import some of that content here. Other trips we’ll share may have been taken quite awhile ago; we’ll tell you in each post when the trip was, and when the post was written/updated, as many experiences (and prices) may change over time.
